Given my past experience as a librarian, I wanted to expand my horizon in the information science profession and I was happy that the University of Tsukuba oered the opportunity. The studies at the graduate school are quite interesting and eye opening for my future professional pathway. The lecturers are so friendly and exhilarating, which motivates me to work hard in our research and studies. The exibility in styles of doing the assignments makes learning better and enjoyable. The fact that one can complete the course in English makes it less stressful for those of us who have limited Japanese language skills. I am currently undertaking a research on ICT capacity building in rural communities in Africa. The school oers us opportuni-ties to explore multidisciplinary research, intersecting with other study areas not limited to library, information or media studies. Given the faculty members are from diverse academic backgrounds spanning across the information science eld from library, education, computer engineering, and other intersecting disciplines. These opens students research interests and opportunities. The faculty members are always ready and willing to provide necessary support for research and daily 博士後期課程English ProgramPingo Zablon Bosireacademic undertakings. The Graduate school also encourages and supports us to attend conferences or academic forums related to specic research interests. Through this I was able to attend an international conference at Osaka in April 2014 to share my research through an oral presentation. I also had an opportunity to learn and network with others students and scholars from other universities and research institutions around the world.Through initiative of faculty members we have a forum which oers opportunity for international and Japanese students, faculty and visiting scholars to share and interact in a relaxing and friendly atmo-sphere in an informal academic chat club. This oers a unique opportunity for students to inspire each other through sharing and building condence in oral presentations more especially when preparing for conferences and other academic forums The students at the university come from many parts of the world. These can make ones’ social life easy but limited to interacting in Japanese or with Japanese students. To make this happen I usually attend Japanese classes oered at the university as part of support to interna-tional students who wish to gain Japanese language skills for daily use. I also enjoy sporting activities more especially playing soccer on weekends with Japanese students on Saturday and international students on Sundays. I sometimes visit Tokyo to take a break from Tsukuba’s life. This makes my study life in the university fullling and enjoy-able.左から Kiryakos Senan, Pingo Zablon Bosire, Rahmi
