Research Students/International Research Students/Graduate Credited Auditors

Research Students (Kenkyusei) are those who conduct researches on specific research topics, under the guidance of an academic adviser.

International students cannot apply for the research student status, but can apply to become International Research Students (Gaikokujin Kenkyusei).

Graduate Credited Auditors (Kamokutorishusei), who are not admitted to the University of Tsukuba, are permitted to take graduate level courses. The results from examinations taken throughout a semester or final examinations may also be recognized as earned credits.

Obtaining Application Package

To obtain the complet application package by postal mail within Japan, applicants are required to send a stamped (140 yen) self-addressed envelope (240×330mm), and a note clearly stating the particular application form, and providing a contact address. The above items should be placed in a large envelope, and be sent to the address given below. Prior consultation with the following division is recommended.

Research Student Admissions

Selection is based on the submitted documents, so it is not necessary to come to Japan to apply. Together with the application form, students must submit a "Communication Status with Prospective Academic Advisor Form " completed by the faculty member of this university. Students are required to contact the faculty member concerning their study plans and Japanese language proficiency, then obtain his/her advance approval concerning study plans and Japanese language proficiency before applying for research student status to the Division of International Students.
