LIS English Program (for doctoral degree)

For many years, the Graduate School of Library, Information and Media Studies at the University of Tsukuba has been as a leading international institution for academic studies, research and scholarship. This program is designed for international students who pursue a career of information professionals in global context. Graduate School of Library, Information and Media Studies at the University of Tsukuba is the first and only institution in Japan that offers a full-time, three years doctoral degree as an English Doctoral program in Library and Information Science.

Objectives of Education

The objective of this doctoral program is to educate international students in Library and Information Science. This course will provide a comprehensive education based on multidisciplinary fields of study, encompassing the fundamental and applied subjects in Library and Information Science. Students will also develop their research skills in the multidisciplinary fields of managing diverse information resources.

Tuition Fees

 The enrollment fee is 282,000 JPY (first year only).

 The tuition fee is 535,800 JPY/Year.

How to apply

*The Guidelines for Application (For 2017/2018) will be uploaded in the autumn 2017.

*The enrollment period to the English Program will be changed to October from 2017. (The enrollment period until 2016 used to be September.)

Please read the Guidelines for Application (For 2016/2017) carefully and follow the instruction in the document. University graduates with any major, and of any age, nationality, culture and profession are all welcomed to apply. There are no requirements on the Japanese-language proficiency.

Note: 

・For applicants who have graduated and already a Degree Holder - you need to submit the original "Degree Certificate" and the original "Graduation Certificate". 
・On the other hand, if the official certificate issued by your university already includes both information from these 2 documents ("Degree Certificate" and "Graduation Certificate"), there is NO need to submit them separately.

・For applicants who are currently enrolled in university, please submit an (Expected) Degree Certificate.
And, if the degree is included in an (Expected) Graduation Certificate, you can submit the (Expected)Graduation Certificate only. Also, please submit the latest academic transcript at this moment. (November 16th, 2016)
