About me

I am an associate professor at Faculty of Library, Information and Media Science, University of Tsukuba.

I research timbre perception, timbre-based data sonification, musical emotion, interaction in music, and assistive technology with sounds. I aim for the theorization and modeling of the multimodal human communication that uses sound as a primary medium, so that we can strategically approach sound design and musical expression based on the knowledge of auditory perception and music cognition.

I teach undergraduate and graduate courses on sound engineering (i.e. mixture of acoustics, psychoacoustics, signal processing, and computer music.) Graduate course is taught in English and Japanese in alternate years.

Before coming to Tsukuba, I got my M.A. and Ph.D. at CCRMA, Stanford University.

電気通信大学電子工学科・同大学院修士課程電子工学専攻修了。スタンフォード大学音楽学科CCRMA修士課程・博士課程修了。 Ph.D. (Music). スタンフォード大学 Centennial TA Award(2006)，パリ国際芸術都市アーティスト・イン・レジデンス(2007)，IRCAM客員研究員(2007)，AES教育財団ジョン・アーグル記念奨学金(2008)，IPA未踏スーパークリエータ(2009)，日本認知科学会奨励賞(2013)，日米先端工学シンポジウム Best Speaker Award (2014)。筑波大学TARAセンター研究員，東京芸術大学非常勤講師，科学技術振興機構さきがけ研究者(兼任) を経て，2013年より筑波大学図書館情報メディア系助教，2020年より筑波大学図書館情報メディア系准教授。
