  1. Transportation from Narita airport

    • Tsukuba is located about 50 km north from Tokyo/Narita airport. The most common ground transportation to Tsukuba is the express bus service operated by Chiba Kotsu, which connects Tokyo/Narita airport and Tsukuba Center in 1 hour 40 minutes. You need to buy the ticket at the bus counter in advance and the fare to Tsukuba Center is 2,540 JPY. The bus ticket counter is located in the arrival lobby in the both terminals 1 and 2. Please ask the location of the bus stop at the bus ticket counter.

      The bus stops at several bus stops before arriving at Tsukuba Center. The final destination of the bus is Tsuchiura. In the case you are going to stay at one of the conference hotels, you should get off the bus at Tsukuba Center.

      When you take the bus to Narita airport from Tsukuba, reservations are recommended. Please ask the registration desk by March 8 11:00 am if you would like to reserve a bus to Narita Airport.

  3. From Tokyo area to Tsukuba

    • The Tsukuba Express connects Akihabara and Tsukuba (58.3 km, 20 stations) in 45 minutes by rapid service or in 52 minutes by semi rapid service.

  4. From Tsukuba Center to each hotel (See the map)

    • OKURA FRONTIER HOTEL (MAIN):
      The hotel is located next to the Bus Center. You should go up to pedestrian deck in the east after getting out the bus. It will take 2 minutes on foot.

      The hotel is located from about 700M from the bus center. It will take 9 minutes on foot. You can use taxi. Taxi terminal is right next to the bus terminal.

  6. Registration

    • Registration desk in the Auditorium will open at 11:00 am on March 6.
    • Participants who have already registered receive a conference package.
    • On-site registration is available. Please pay the registration fee at theregistration counter by credit card or by cash in JPY. We strongly recommend you to change foreign currency to Japanese Yen at NARITA Airport. Foreign currency exchange is not available in weekends in Tsukuba.

  7. Conference Package

  8. Keynotes, Sessions and Symposium (See the conference program in detail.)

    • Opening remark, Plenary sessions, Panel, Keynotes, Symposium, Track A Sponsors'sessions and Closing remark are held in the Auditorium.
    • Track B is held in the Media Hall on the 2nd floor of Information Media Union.
    • Track C is held in the Meeting Room for Joint Research 1 on the 3rd floor of Information Media Union.
    • Posters are presented in Lecture Room 104 from March 7 to March 8.
    • Sponsors'Exhibitions are provided at the lounge in the Auditorium and on the 2nd floor of Information Media Union during the conference. Sponsors -- not A-LIEP 2009 Committees -- take responsibility for their own exhibitions.

  9. Conference Lounge

    • SHOKUDO Hall opens during the conference (Reception only on March 6) and your lunch box will be delivered here.
    • Connecting wireless LAN
    • Monitoring the conference by network broadcast (Kasuga Campus only)

  10. Internet Access

    • Wireless access is available in the Auditorium, Information Media Union, and SHOKUDO Hall. You can ask your network ID and password for wireless access at the registration desk and the information desk.

  11. Help and Information

    • Information Desks are located at the lounge of Auditorium and at the 2nd floor of Information Media Union.
    • Conference staff have their ID card attached to a red strap.

  12. Lunch & Beverage/Snacks

    • Conference lunch is provided at lunch time on March 7 and March 8. Please bring your lunch ticket to take lunch box at SHOKUDO Hall. Vegetarian lunch will be available.
    • Beverages and snacks are available during coffee breaks at the lounge of the Auditorium, the Information Media Union, th Lecture Room 104 (poster session), and SHOKUDO Hall.

  13. Reception & Banquet

    • Reception starts at 6:00 pm on March 6 at SHOKUDO Hall. All the participants are welcome to join. (No ticket)
    • Complimentary contracted bus services to some hotels are available after the reception. (see "Transportation between each hotel and the conference venue" )
    • Banquet starts at 7:45 pm on March 7 at Sansuitei restaurant. Vegetarian meals will be available. Please bring your banquet ticket and name tag with you. We will collect the ticket at restaurant reception.
    • Bus to the restaurant leaves at 7:30 pm in front of Information Media Union. (Sansuitei is about 20 minutes walk distance from the conference venue, and 10 minutes walk from Hotel Grand Shinonome. Sansuitei is not so far, but we recommended taking the bus)
    • Complimentary contracted bus service to some hotels will be available after banquet.

  14. Conference Excursions

    • Excursion 1 (for accompanying person): plum blossom viewing at Mt. Tsukuba on March 7: 4 hours(1:30 pm-5:30 pm)
    • Excursion 2 (for those interested): school library visit in TSUKUBA MIRAI City on March 9: 2.5 hours(9:00 am-11:30 am)
    • Book your seat by email (a-liep@kc.tsukuba.ac.jp) or at the registration desk at the conference venue. We will accept booking until bus seats are filled.

  15. Area Information

    • Shopping
      • Shopping malls, supermarkets and restaurants are located at Tsukuba Center area.
      • IIAS, which is a large shopping mall, is located near Kenkyu Gakuen Station of Tsukuba Express, the first station from TX TSUKUBA Station by Semi-Rapid service. Also you can reach there by 20 to 25 minutes walk from conference venue.
      • You can use a credit card in most of shops.

    • Banks and Post Office
      • You can draw cash on your credit card at ATM near main gate of the university. The ATM opens from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday, to 6:00 pm on Friday.
      • Banks and Post office are closed on Saturday and Sunday.
      • US Dollar and Euro can be changed in OKURA FRONTIER HOTEL
      • Foreign exchange shop Travelex is at AKIHABARA in Tokyo.

      • The best time to exchange foreign currency is upon your arrival at NARITA Airport. The banks there open every day.

  16. Weather in Tsukuba

    • Early March is still cold in Tsukuba. The highs are 10 to 15 degrees Celsius, and lows are 1 to 5 degree Celsius. Please bring warm clothes to be prepared for the cold weather. The weatherman predicted rain from March 6 to March 8.
