The Rector, Secretary General, and Director of International Affairs from Stuttgart Media University in Germany visited the University of Tsukuba.
On April 4, 2025, Rector Prof. Dr. Alexander Roos, Secretary General Nicole Kuhn, and International Affairs Director Martina Schumacher from Stuttgart Media University in Germany visited the University of Tsukuba to tour the university's library and other facilities and hold a meeting to discuss student exchanges.
Stuttgart Media University was originally established as a higher education institution for printing technology and library and information science, and is a university with strengths in media education, featuring a combination of lectures and practical projects.
Our university has signed inter-departmental exchange agreements with the Institute of Library, Information and Media Science, Master’s Program in Informatics, and the School of Informatics, and has accepted 13 exchange students over the past five years.
On the day, the group made a courtesy call on the Dean of the Institute of Library, Information and Media Science; the former Dean of the same institute;
the Chair of the Master's and Doctoral Programs in Informatics; and the Chair of the College of Knowledge and Library Sciences. After the visit, they toured the Well-Being Room, Bibliobattle Studio, the Media Museum of the Information Media Union, and the Library on Library and Information Science.
At the meeting, the possibility of future collaboration in education and research was discussed with key faculty members from our university-Professor Nobutaka Suzuki(Chair of the College of Knowledge, Information and Library Science), Associate Professor Eduard Baryshev(in charge of international internships), and Assistant Professor Atsushi Hara(liaison and coordination for this visit). Stuttgart Media University actively proposed mutual student exchanges, and meaningful discussions were held regarding the further promotion of such exchanges.
After the meeting, the group toured the campus, including the Tsukuba University Gallery and the Central Library.
In the mild spring weather, the visitors had the opportunity to experience the atmosphere of our expansive campus, adorned with cherry blossoms in full bloom and preparations underway to welcome new students.
It is hoped that this visit will lead to the continued development of student exchanges between Stuttgart Media University and affiliated educational institutions, including the Institute of Library, Information and Media Science, the Master’s Program in Informatics, and the School of Informatics.
